ANR tests - Ideal preparation for the boatmaster exam
If you're training to become a recreational boat skipper, going through some of the ANR test is very important in the process that will lead you to passing the exam.
We offer you the opportunity to take free ANR tests, specially designed to help you better understand the structure of the exam and familiarize yourself with the questions you will encounter.
What are ANR tests?
The ANR tests are simulated according to the official structure of the Romanian Naval Authority exam and include questions from all relevant subjects for the recreational craft skipper certification. They will help you to assess your level of knowledge and identify areas where you still need further training. Among the categories of questions you will encounter in the NRA tests are:
- COLREG Rules (International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea)
- Maritime navigation
- Seafaring
- Driving and handling motorboats
- Rules of navigation on the Danube
These tests are organized according to the official promotion scales and give you a clear picture of how to prepare for the NRA exam.

How are ANR tests structured?
NRA tests are organized according to the class of certificate you wish to obtain:
- Class C - for sea and inland navigation, includes questions from COLREG rules, navigation, seamanship and boat handling.
- Class D - for navigation on the Danube and other inland waters, tests knowledge of Danube navigation regulations, seamanship and boat handling.
For each class, the tests include grid-type questions with multiple-choice answers, similar to the structure of the official exam.
Tips for passing the ANR tests
To get excellent results in the NRA tests and be prepared for the official exam, follow these tips:
- Practise a few ANR tests every day to familiarize yourself with the questions and to anchor your knowledge.
- After each test, check the wrong answers and look more closely at the areas where you have difficulties.
- Each test has a specific time allocated. Practice time management to make sure you don't run out of time for the official exam.
- Read the questions carefully! Many candidates make mistakes because of a superficial reading of the questions. Make sure you understand each question before answering.
